We recently gave our first AIDS Prevention Lecture at Gifu-Shokaku Elementary School. It took the form of a joint lesson for two classes of 6 graders, moving their desks into a single classroom. The children listened to our lecture with great interest, and during the question-and-answer session, they asked a number of questions with broad perspective, such as about global HIV & AIDS statistics. Towards the end of the lecture, when I posed a sudden impromptu revision question as a revision exercise on about the difference between AIDS and HIV, one of the students answered confidently and correctly, prompting a round of applause. The atmosphere remained lively throughout. At the end, the headteacher kindly remarked, 'I would very much like you to give this lecture next year as well.'
